Jangneung is the grave of King Danjong, the 6th king of Joseon. When the dead body of Danjong was thrown at the riverside, Hojang Eom, Heumgdo of Yeongwol buried it in where it's now Jangneung and hid himself. In 1526(11th year in the reign of King Jungjong), by the King's command, Bak, Chungwon, the county headman of Yeongwol made a mound. In 1698(24th year in the reign of King Sunjong), the grave was named Jangneung.
Danjong was the only son of Munjong. In 1441(23th year in the reign of King Sejong), he was born, and in 1452, when he was 12, he becomes a king. Only after 3 years, Suyangdaegun, his uncle, takes over the throne, and he was degraded to Nosangun. After 2 months of banishment in Cheongryeongpo in 1457, he was put to death in Gwanpungheon, Yeongwol.
In Jeongreung, Danjongdaewangsindobi, Jeongjagak, Yeongcheon, Baesikdan and Baesikdansa, Suboksil, Eom Heungdo Jeongnyeogak, Nakchon Gijeokbi, Bagyenjeong and such take place. In front of the mound, there is Sangseok and long and bright light of cubical. In the each side of mound, stoneworks such as Mangjuseok, Muninseok, and Seoksu are arranged, but there is no Muninseok. There is a round wall around the mound.
