The gingko tree in Hasong-ri, Yeongwol-eup is the biggest one in Asia. It's 1200 years old, 36m high, and has diameter of 18m. It's known to have been planted by Eom, Imui, the progenitor of Yeongwol Eom family. The citizens of Yeongwol treat the gingko tree as a god. At the time under the rule of Japanese imperialism and at the time of Korean War, it's northern branch was broken. At the restoration of August 15th, its eastern branch was broken. People believe that the gingko tree predicts and shares their sadness and happiness.
