Yeongwol confucian shrine is located about 100m away from KBS Yeongwol Broadcasting Studio.
It's told to have been built in 1398(7th year in the reign of King Taejo), and was repaired in 1473(4th year in the reign of King Seongjong). It was reopened in 1574(7th year in the reign of King Seonjo), restored in 1593(26th year in the reign of King Seonjo), and rebuilted in 1604(37th year in the reign of King Seonjo). It was restructured in 1617(9th year in the reign of King Gwanghaegun), repaired in 1634(12th year in the reign of King Injo), restored in 1677(3rd year in the reign of King Sukjong) and 1795(19th year in the reign of King Jeongjo), and repaired in 1825(25th year in the reign of King Sunjo). Naesammun, Myeongrundang, Janguisil, and Punghwaru was burnt during a war in 1950, but Daeseongjeon and the hall was teachers were not burnt. In 1958, Naesammun, Myeongrundang, and Janguisil was rebuilt, and Punghwaru was repaired in 1964. In 1981, Myeongrundang, Punghwaru, Naesammun and such were repaired, Daeseongjeon in 1983 and Dongseomu in 1986 was dismantled and restored. In 1987, teacher's hall was dismantled and restored. In 1992, Dongje was reconstructed and repaired, Punghwaru was repaired, newly colored and hanging board of Daeseongjeon was reconstructed. In 1993, the library was reconstructed and repaired.
