Cheongryeongpo is located about 3km away toward west from the urban district of Yeongwol. It formed a peninsula shape as Seogang River, a branch of Namhangang River, meandered. East, north, and west side of it is blocked by deep water, and south that's connected with land is blocked by precipice of Yungnukbong. For that reason, Danjong who was banished here called it 'Yukjigodo'(meaning lonely island on the land). In June 1457(3rd year in the reign of King Sejo), Danjong, degraded to Nosangun, was banished in Cheongryeongpo. In the summer of the same year, Seogang River was flooded and Cheongryeongpo area was flooded. Danjong had to move to Gwanpungheon, an inn of Yeongwol-bu, across the river. Danjong spent several months by composing poems up on Jagyuru, and died on the October of the same year. There are Cheongpogeumpyobi, Danjongyujibi, Gwaneumsong, Nosandae, Manghynagtap and such in Cheongryeongpo. They all show the banished life of Danjong. Excavation of Cheongryeongpo was done by Korea Cultural Assets Preservation Foundation in July 1998.
